5 years ago I tried figuring out how Netflix marks episodes as played by watching the requests, but I had no success. Perhaps controlling the web player is indeed the only solution for now.
I'm sure you have thought of this and there is a good reason why it doesn't work but I couldn't see it in the existing issues.
Could you control the netflix web player to start playing an episode and then skip the end as a way of recording a old play in trakt into netflix? Of course the date of the activity is wrong but its better than having to do it manually. Manually playing each episode is the only way I've found of getting netflix to not recommend stuff I've already watched.
