OMEKESANG #1

Open johnbent opened 2 years ago

johnbent commented 2 years ago

This word is used in the song MIK: Duldengei e ochedengei / eng mla mekesang aikal rengud / ultoir a uoi meringel ema / kulatk a kmo mesengaked. Yoichi Rengiil and Ongerung Kambes Kesolei said that mekesang comes from omakes, and would properly be spelled omekesang meaning to start to take a step, begin making progress toward something, etc. The "o" of omekesang is dropped when preceded by the vowel of "mla."

Omekesang is likely v.i.inch.

I tried to connect with Kambes once... and I also saw him when I was in Koror, but he didn't answer( his explanation looks to be logical, but I don't understand all the context of this song.

Duldengei e ochedengei / [If we knew, my friend/beloved eng mla mekesang aikal rengud / [Our hearts/souls would have moved on/gone forward ultoir a uoi meringel ema / [Chasing/Pining/Courtship is so very painful/hard so kulatk a kmo mesengaked. [If I think about it, I will become so thin

I know this is really old, but could omekesang in this song be omekesangch (force open; pull apart by force). So the lyric would read, "It has torn apart our hearts." This word is used in Belau Rekid at the end of the first verse.

Gnalu commented 1 year ago

If you want to use the word "omekesangch" then the sentence would be (duldengei e ochedengei eng mla obekesangch aikal rengud...omekesangch is pulling apart while obekesangch is have had pulled apart.

Chris, can you share the full sentence from the song please or a link?

Belau loba klisiich er a kelulul, El di mla ngar ngii ra rechuodel mei Meng mengeluolu era chimol beluu, El ngar eungel a rirch el lomekesang.

Palau is coming forth with strength and power, By the old ways abides still every hour. One country, safe, secure, one government Under the glowing, floating soft light stands.

So this would be basically,

Palau, which holds sovereignty, Which has been since very ancient times, It safeguards one people, Which, under the breaking dawn, begins to step forth.

So maybe this is, as you said, the v.i.inch. of omakes.

Lukes-Imeyuns commented 1 year ago

Oh Lol! The part about hearts being torn apart had me thinking we're talking about a different song...

But in this song, yes, omekesang is begin to step forth...

Sorry, I don't know the rest of the song’s context. I wasn't sure if it was one of those songs about broken love or something
