When I first heard the word tetael, it was in the phrase "sechal tetael" that Santy Asanuma used to describe himself during the 1996 Palau general election when he ran for the Senate.

From what I remember him saying, tetael describes one who is competent and capable, maybe industrious, as well.

You’re right, Jegla. I remember my uncle Santy went to visit my grandpa to get a blessing for running and he said Santy should use the slogan “sechal tetael”. My understanding is that it’s like the embodiment of a good man of service. Ungil a teletelel. Man of good qualities.

another way to describe a person who is strong willed or who possess perseverance. In other words, " Eia kau meral 'morets'; Eia ke meral 'sechal tetael' eh rungalk.
