Medobech seems to be the ergative form of melobech, so the meaning “get cut down; (person) die” makes a lot of sense. Would this be a formal use of the word, casual, or slang?

Formal. Today the German smecher is used commonly. I don't hear people use Medobech much anymore except for some older family members.

Similar to melebeakl. To curse. As in to cut the soul away from the body.
