Agree with Mar.
With respect to "any cultural ceremony" we do use "mechesang" and "chelsang" to refer to any customary obligations, e.g. funeral, cheldecheduch, ocheraol (traditional "house party"). It is probably because the event keeps one busy - mechesang.
