as of commit 17ddf5a64d1acd0a4b63a721c8fe00c8eca8be9d, there are two separate files of tests that target using search.q() with and without fields.

Now, I think that there is enough to justify closing this issue, at least in the scope of the current sprint. Arguably the title of this issue will be ongoing work of having many meaningful tests.
