### Steps to reproduce 1. Would be good the way to set a range of time to activate night mode automatically ### Expected behaviour When a range of time is setted, eg: 7pm to 6am, the night mode would activate automatically ### Actual behaviour Don't exist a automatically mode ### Configuration **Operating system:** Windows 10 Pro x64 **Version of Telegram Desktop:** 1.1.9 alpha **Used theme**: Default

yes

stek29 commented 7 years ago

On Windows it can also follow system wide night mode I guess.

joonro commented 7 years ago

It would be great if there is an option where I can set it to follow Windows system settings - for example in the new Skype app, if I use Windows default mode instead of Light or Dark, then the Skype's colors changes when I change default app mode in Colors settings.

Any new regarding the issue? I would really appreciate this feature as manual switching each time is annoying.

st-den commented 4 years ago

Bump, I guess? Would really like to have it. Most apps on my system either use OS-wide theme settings or allow to set a specific time range. Mobile Telegram has this functionality, too.

Location (manual or geoip) sunrise/sunset times?

MitchTalmadge commented 4 years ago

Would love if it followed system theme.

ExtraClock commented 4 years ago

+1 for system theme or for the Skype way (System/Light/Dark)

sadeghi-aa commented 4 years ago

Until it hopefully gets implemented, is there any way to do it with a script or something (Task Scheduler could do the job)? I checked regedit, didn't find anything related. There's a file named "settingss" in the install directory but I don't know how to open/edit it. Opening it with Notepad results in random undecipherable characters.

On GNOME we have Night Light, which uses geoclue to determine the location and sunrise/sunset times to set the schedule, and I'm currently using an extension that also switches the system's GTK and shell themes when Night Light activates and deactivates.

It would be nice if Telegram Desktop could follow that system setting as well.

I don't know what the extension does, but tdesktop listens for theme change and enabled night mode if theme name ends with -dark

This. There are 3rd party apps that allow to quickly toggle system wide night mode. Mine is set to Win+F2. But then I have to switch themes in Telegram, Firefox, Xodo, Git Bash (which is a PITA), etc, etc... Of all my apps I think only Total Commander, IntelliJ IDEA (via a 3rd party plugin) and—guess what?—WhatsApp (!) switch automatically and painlessly. It's a real shame that WhatsApp offers such a useful feature when Telegram, which is supposed to be a better alternative to it, doesn't.

ilya-fedin commented 3 years ago

tdesktop supports that, on all 3 systems

stachenov commented 3 years ago

That's very good news indeed! Had a hard time finding it, though (never would have thought it would be in chat settings, because it applies to everything, not just chats). I think it would make sense to have it enabled by default.

That doesn't really work well... take Adapta Nokto (dark version of the Adapta GTK theme) for example, since it doesn't end in '-dark', Telegram never switches its theme automatically. Being able to instruct Telegram which dark theme we're using, or being able to change the theme based on the time would easily solve this.

It's probably a bell to standardize theme names

Agreed. I just found out by reading this issue - was about to create a new one. 🙈 Since I'm the 3rd person reporting back here and running into this issue it could be an indicator that the settings are not structured ideally. :) I would expect such options in something like Appearance not Chat Settings. (Why does a sub category of settings has settings in its name again?! 🤔)

I think it would make sense to have it enabled by default.

There used to be an issue for this: https://github.com/telegramdesktop/tdesktop/issues/10596
