Hi, looks like smapi patching trying to patch file in the wrong directory. I do have my tp-smapi sources in /usr/src/modules/tp-smapi folder after installing tp-smapi-source from repository. So patching /usr/src/tp-smapi-0.40/thinkpad_ec.c does nothing except for creating this file.

You would also want to use -O version on m-a auto-install, otherwise it unpacks sources again and override any changes.
