Logo #43

It appeared you’re missing an awesome logo, so I made you one: It’s based on the stable triangular shape of a tent, with the corners having further connections.

Also works good in wide:

And on black:

Or on anything for that matter. Here with Beardmore Glacier, one of the earliest routes explorers took to the south pole:

Let me know what you think.

Wow, thanks! I'm one of the architects of Tent. Would you be willing to make a version in a single color/monochrome as well for printed versions? I'm also thinking about tshirts or anything else screenprinted (LOTS of colors to separate right now = lots of screens).

We'd like services that use Tent to be able to display the logo on the site (login with Tent, supports Tent, Tent app, etc), so I'm also thinking about an icon similar in size to the twitter/facebook service icons that would display well at low resolutions.

We're still sorting out all the stuff around what organization will own the branding, need to do something like wifi so only organizations that actually support the standard can use it and it's enforceable so users know what they're getting. I'd love to talk to you about terms if you're open to it.

If you're not interested in continuing to work on it, that's okay. If you're not interested, would you be willing to share the design files so someone else could take over, or would you prefer someone else didn't work on the design? Happy to continue the conversation over email: daniel@danielsiders.com

Really great design, thanks again for your contribution!

Anyone else with notes/feedback on the logo (especially the "simplified small service icon", let's make sure we're not infringing on Lift or anyone similar

Which font is being used? It will be important for it to be a web friendly font (potentially open).

THIS LOGO RULES. that is all

videmsky commented 11 years ago

Ditto: Max. This logo rules. I love the prism refraction metaphor.

(Just a quick reply, I need to go to sleep.)

@danielsiders yep, of course. Will do a b/w version, more iconic. How many screens are you thinking for the screenprint? I’d love to continue working on it – normally I’m interaction designer, but this logo just sprung to my head. Let’s keep the convo here, I work best in the open. Will post the sources when I have the b/w version.

@jrschumacher the characters are handmade.

@maxogden THANKS MAX!

:rocket:

@jancborchardt Thanks again. Happy to keep the discussion here.

Before we go any further I want to make sure we're not wasting your time and you're 100% okay with our terms that all rights and trademarks to the logo would have to be turned over completely to the organization governing Tent so they can enforce it's appropriate use. If you're not okay with this, I understand entirely, but Tent's official logo needs to belong 100% to Tent for now. Obviously anyone contributing to, mentioning, or otherwise referring to tent would be free to use the logo. We have the same concerns about the "Tent" brand and still haven't settled on a clear set of guidelines. We're mostly worried about fragmentation misleading/malicious use (claiming to be an "official" tent product), and user confusion and our terms will clearly define this use. See others' similar concerns. Make sense?

If you're not okay with those terms, there are lots of other "more open" parts of the protocol to which you could contribute as an interaction designer. For example, we're currently designing the signup/onboarding and administration pages for the reference implementation of the server which is MIT licensed. We're happy to have your help in whatever way makes you the most comfortable.

We need to avoid confusing consumers as some people have already tried to fork Tent as a new, incompatible, protocol. Wherever they see the Tent logo they know the services are in fact using Tent. We imagine this as similar to the W3C validator, servers, apps, and hosting providers would need to pass a set of automated compatibility tests.

This logo is super awesome.

Walktoitaca commented 11 years ago

i made this logo feel free to use it, and own it, if you want http://img.scoop.it/hpR_-N-edLH0CVlFdQSjtDl72eJkfbmt4t8yenImKBVaiQDB_Rd1H6kmuBWtceBJ Its made just for the Tent Project, so it is just Tent Project owned.

danielsiders commented 11 years ago

Thanks @Walktoitaca, @jancborchardt ! Both of these designs are great!

I think the best idea is to have a request for submissions after launch. That way we can make a list of clear design guidelines and get community feedback like Apache. After launch we'll have a better idea of what needs the logo has to meet.
