For Itinerary, it is a conscious decision by the developer to not include the date range of the trip on the Itinerary page, so as to not clutter the screen showing the list of activities. Should a user happen to input a date that does not fall within the date range of the trip, an error message will be shown along with a reminder of the date range of the trip.
For Journal, a journal entry can be written at any time, before, during or after the trip. This is the developers' intention to allow flexibility of writing journal entries. Hence, the user should not need to "memorise" any date while writing a journal entry.
