This classical UX feature was discussed at hacker news a while back, with "Why I'm Done With Social Media Buttons" forming the background for the discussion. Personally I tend to agree with the argument that social media buttons are more of an relics of the web 2.0 era, introduced to new websites by well intended reflexes, than a good modern website feature, but the conclusion is up for grabs. Any other thoughts?
After reading the pages about "ugly design" from the hacker news post. And the other links I have two comments: 1: Ugly pages work, share buttons makes things easier, but we go for neither. 2: "If people really love your content, they’ll share it."
On the other hand, I found some smooth looking buttons. http://caracaschronicles.com/2014/02/20/the-game-changed/
So the discussion is back ^^
