Should the tail-time option be re-introduced? #252

Open nikreiman opened 8 years ago

nikreiman commented 8 years ago

The --tail-time option was removed once MW properly supported delay compensation (see #174). However, some plugins don't report this option correctly, and may not be able to be fixed. Should we consider re-introducing this option for broken plugins?

Note: A list of non-compliant plugins should be assembled before this discussion goes too much further. According to user reports, possible culprits include: Valhalla DSP plugins, epicVerb, and the EWQL Spaces plugin.

I believe this could be a useful addition. Mrswatson's role in my framework is not insignificant, and in the implementation accuracy is important enough that I have resorted to adjusting for discrepancy between input and output lengths via post processing with sox. Unfortunately i'm only a hobbyist and not yet in a position to help in any meaningful way, but I wanted to say thank you for your work on this. You've enabled me to expand my artistic practice in some ground-breaking ways. Apologies for the off-topic.

This would definitely be useful. I'm currently using MuTools MUX (a VST that hosts VST's) to circumvent problems MrsWatson has with some plugins (like Fabfilter), but MUX does not support delay compensation so I'm ending up with files that have silence in the beginning and have clipped endings.
