The scope for the original project is to only deal with the user's observations.
The app could be expanded to offer some pre-baked searches to let user view other user's observations:

If you implement this feature, we need to be careful that it can't be abused to leak the location of sensitive species. The coordinates are protected but we don't want malicious users being able to narrow down where something might be by repeatedly querying what's "near me".
