Black list for some cards on game creation form #1197

What about possibility to ban some cards from the game?

I see it like suggest input box. When user starts to type the text into that input box application is showing max 10 cards matching input by name. If user clicks some of the suggestions it is displayed under that input box (can be removed then). After click by "Create Game" application creates new game as usual but cards from black list are removed from the deck.

Sorry for my English. Is it suggestion understandable?

Pretty nice idea. Is there any card in particular card people like to ban though? Only thing I could think of is Toll Station which can be very swingy. Otherwise, I typically like to ban corps or colonies which we can already do.

An option to modify Toll Station at 4-5 players to only count space tags for the two highest opponents was discussed somewhere on BGG before, though that's more of a preference IMO. Personally I wouldn't ban any card, but it could be a useful feature for others.

I personally like the idea, even discussed it in chat. I see it not as a means to stop broken cards but to make take the player decision making to another level. I'd use it as an in-house rule "Each player can ban up to two cards" before the game. The same can be done with corps "Each player can ban on corp". The benefits: 1) Player feels like she has more control 2) There are cards / corps that players just hate playing againts like Luna :--) 3) It could be the case that you know someone's favourite corp / card-combo and ban it (like Jovian multipliers) and she can return the favor in her ban / draft

The banning is a well know concept in gaming - see Dota 2 tournaments, so yeah I'm all for having the option to do it.

My group would like this idea , they always ban three corps : Manutech / Poseidon / Vitor , cause these three are T1 corps. and in offine games , they would remove some cards from the deck before starting ,such as EarthCatapult (too strong)/ UndergroundDetonations(too weak) . But I don't like ban anything IMO, TM is a "luck" game after all ,each play has the same chance

chosta commented 4 years ago

@jijiqw that is exactly why this would be a nice addition. Your group dislikes certain corps / cards, mine dislikes other. The removing of "weak" cards also sounds interesting. I don't fully agree that TM is a "luck" game :). It's not chess and RNG plays a big part but with draft + initial draft and a very good balance in card value overall I think its mostly "skill".

Agree, this could be implemented as a game option to remove certain project cards from the deck if players choose to do so. We should probably set a limit on the number of project cards that can be removed though.

I think this would be a great feature. Just to add my personal experience, the group I play with likes the Promo cards but not the Promo corps of the base game. This is partially because our main experience was on TTS where it's shuffled into base game even when you don't check the box for fan made corps. So we would like to see Penguins, Asteroid, Snow Algae and Self Replicating Robots but would probably ban some or all the corps. This feature would provide a lot of flexibility in recreating that experience.

So we would like to see Penguins, Asteroid, Snow Algae and Self Replicating Robots but would probably ban some or all the corps

You can do it already. We have corporations filter

Oh, wow. Bad at reading. Thanks.

Still would upvote the issue for playing cards, though. The same group I play with likes to sometimes just rotate out random cards because we think they are boring (Protected Habitats) or can get a bit out of hand (Terraforming Ganymede).
