This is related to something I brought up in #527 : using the grid gui for sub-assembly lattices
If the "core" grid editor can handle tips up hexagons, then we can write a core grid using the same pattern as the pin grid, and then find/replace assembly specifiers for component lattice ids
One useful feature for the grid GUI would be to allow for the grid to be rotated for hexagonal or modeling (i.e., tips up). Sometimes core layouts are provided with a 90 degree rotation in documentation or a benchmark so this would be a quality of life improvement to save some time.
I am not sure if the ASCII maps currently supports this in the yaml file import or export, but it would be nice if that could work as well.
