One question: is this a process that we can open up to the public or should we add additional instructions for setting up a mirror using load.bety.sh (see https://github.com/terraref/reference-data/issues/111#issuecomment-292604008)?
I believe the current approach is appropriate for a small number of closely associated researchers who would benefit from direct access. It's not the most user-friendly of mechanisms. But others should weigh in on this. Using load.bety.sh to create a local system pre-supposes running a postgres server somewhere. That's not impossible but installing and administering postgres might be beyond the scope of what researcher want to undertake. We could focus on providing docker images but that has its own infrastructure requirements for the researcher.
