unused variables and methods, declared private but used non-privately

I'm not sure this is correct. if you enable debug mode in the settings, then these variables will be used when outputting to the console

Any ideas for a good fix, or should I simply tell my compiler not to treat these warnings as errors?

I'm thinking about how best to do this, while it's better to disable the warning as an error
