This added 5MB to the image (a 50% increase), so we should look for slimmer alternatives.

Hah. Obvious candidates: identifying the important codecs to support in ffmpeg (is there an ffmpeg-lite configuration) or moving it to an optional package. Also portaudio isn't needed.
