lauf\/fähigen can be lauffähigen if compiled with lualatex. See https://github.com/latextemplates/scientific-thesis-template/tree/master/docs#q-what-is-the-issue-with-ligatures for details.

Should we switch to lualatex (although it is slow)? May current thinking:

pdflatex while creating the document
lualatex for the final version

Reason: compile time of lualatex in comparison with pdflatex
