Results

Here are the details of my investigation where I investigated 3 open-source options:

Works in-browser, decent speed (~4-5s)
No server needed, and can be bundled with extension
Supports a lot of languages, but language needs to selected specifically
Not very accurate, random characters; positioning is decent

Very fast on both CPU and GPU (~1.5s), lightweight model. Supports a lot of languages still
Offers 3 different levels of models (I tested with medium)
Tough to set up on M1 Mac (ARM not supported fully I think)
Very accurate, however misses some text sometimes

Very quick and easy to set up
Very accurate, get most text, but adds a bit of padding around the text
