The question/problem

We need to write up info in the upcoming (4.8) tag txp:item. Hopefully @bloatware can provide some details on how it works and example(s)?

Yep, as soon as I know it :-) The idea is a general-purpose tag that could be used inside "list" tags to retrieve the value of the current "item". For example

<txp:older shift="1,2,3">
    Page <txp:item name="page" />
</txp:older>
