The warped base, which makes the feeder rock back and forth, helped thwart a raccoon on 2019-05-28. because he couldn't "chimney" up and transition across. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGEHJvDEX-8
Raccoons aren't trying the "up the wall" access any more since that one time, I think I should move this up in priority while the weather is nice, before we get a bad windstorm in the fall that rocks the feeder all the way over.
I have ordered a metal base for the feeder which should address the bulk of the issue.
To do:
Dimensions of feeder platform, for plastic replacement:
Thickness: 1/2 " Width (Perch Width): 11 1/4 " Length (Does not have to be exact): 12 "
Ordering: Marine StarBoard: https://www.tapplastics.com/product/plastics/cut_to_size_plastic/king_starboard/526
"King StarBoard®, King StarBoard® XL and King StarLite® XL come with a textured matte finish on both sides. King StarBoard® AS comes with a non-skid dot pattern finish on one side and a matte finish on the reverse."
Base problem is fixed I think, the new base seems to work well.
The replacement platform was too heavy and caused the counterweight to trigger with a squirrel on it.
See if you can do this instead:
Thickness: 1/4 " Width (Perch Width): 11 1/4 " Length (Does not have to be exact): 12 "
Replacement platform 2 works well. Both crows and squirrels have already successfully used it.
The feeder's wooden base, and the feeder's platform, both warp in the rain, despite me putting extremely strong deck paint on them.
Investigate options for replacing them both with better marine-grade plywood which won't warp.
