2019-08-19 - Observed seagull standing on the feeder roof and bending upside down to get to the food. It only works a little bit, the seagull can only get a couple of kernels after a lot of effort, but it's still more than I want the seagulls to be able to get.
Ideas:
Shim the base mount a little bit so that the feeder tips forward a few degrees more, which will make the gull slip more when trying to bend over.
Extend roofline with an inch or two of plexiglass, preventing the seagull from reaching the food. Make sure the plexi is bolted in from the sides, not from the top, so that there are no new places on the roof for seagull feet to find purchase.
Roofline extended, seagulls got frustrated for a few days and then stopped coming again. Success, but the roofline extension makes it harder to see the crows.
