Journal notes/pages need to be found to learn skills and improve talents. Picking up a journal item allows the user to review it and upon completing a level, they have the option to learn the capability. If they have multiple unlearned skills, they may only select one to learn per level completion. Journal pages might also have hyroglypics... which may also be a skill to learn, by finding a rosetta stone.
