Hi, the in-game motd is only updated between matches. If you check the 'Welcome' area in the web admin panel it should display the updated motd but it won't show up in-game until the next match. !reload_motd
will check the file on disk for changes whereas !update_motd
just updates the score information.
Rebooting the server won't be productive in troubleshooting the issue, try switch maps. If the issue is related to the reload_motd
command, restarting the tool might help. Double check your file names too. In the configuration file magicked_admin.conf
you should have a section with your server information titled [server_one]
or similar, the .motd
file has to match that, i.e. server_one.motd
, omitt the []
braces.
Thank you for the feedback, really appreciate it.
Is changing the map really the only way to update the MOTD, or at least the easiest way?
Are %PLR and %SCR the only tags I can use? and is %SCR determined by what I update it to using !update_motd Kills, or Dosh, or Time
Yeah, the motd not updating during a match wasn't even noticed until Endless was added to the game and I haven't played much since then. Even without kf2-ma you can test this by editing the motd during a match, it wont refresh in-game until the next match. I haven't experimented with this much but the web admin panel has some odd behaviours, there could be a way to get it to update mid-match that I'm not aware of.
You are right about the update_motd
parameter, it determines the metric used for %SCR, there is a plan to improve this functionality in the next release so you can mix them but I don't think I've built it yet. There are also the %SRV_K
and %SRV_D
tokens that will display the total kills and dosh on the server.
Well, I really hope you get back into Killing Floor, I appreciate the time to create this and respond to my whining ...
I still don't fully understand how to get the server MOTD to update, but I'm going to manage I think. I have a better understanding of the MOTD structure, which will hopefully reduce the amount of trial and error I need to do.
Thanks!
No problem, if you need further assistance you can add me on Steam if you want.
Describe the bug I'm trying to update the MOTD, but with the sensitivity that Killing Floor requires with the MOTD (as in, 90% of the time, there's something it doesn't like, and wont show), there's a lot of trial and error in setting this up. The issue I'm having, is I can far from constantly get the MOTD to actually update. Between infinite
!update_motd kills
and!reload_motd
and repeated reboots of this tool and the server, about 90+% of the time, the MOTD does not update ...I don't understand what I'm doing wrong, or what magical combination of commands and reset, I'm doing that ever make the thing work in the first place ...
Is there an actual step by step documenting the process of updating the MOTD?
To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:
Expected behavior Change [server].motd, save file, run !reload_motd, connect to server, see results ...
