Use system properties to set version number, maven remote repo, maven credentials
Remove gradle.properties as gradle prioritizes those system properties over those supplied over the command line (which is stupid)

Already made these changes myself. Not sure why the PR doesn't show them. But you submitted the PR before I committed the changes so something probably got confused.
