No Accent or Umlaut Keys on HTC Desire #185

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Connect to my Xtightvnc-Server and start any application.
2. Rise the keyboard by long pressing the menu button.
3. Touch and hold o, swipe to any character except for the number 9.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected is to see any of the accent characters or the german Umlaut"ö". What
I see is an o pasted until I release after swiping when the o got deleted by a
backspaces so that no character remains.

What version of android-vnc-viewer are you using?
The one in the market an the last build from 08/2010.

Which VNC server/version are you using? On which platform?
Tightvnc-Server on Debian, x11vnc from Fedora.

What is the size of the desktop you are trying to access (i.e. 1024x768,
1920x1080...)?
1280x800

What device are you using?
HTC Desire

Are you using a custom ROM? If so, which?
Nope, only a rooted stock Froyo.

Please provide any additional information below.
I tried with xev to see the character codes. If I use swiping e.g. for "9"
which is the first choice when touching and holding "o" I get key press and
release events for o-backspace-9. When I use this with swiping to "ö" I get
key press and release events for o-backspace only. So it seems that AndroidVNC
is not really capable of dealing with these special characters - well not
really special as half of the world and almost any language except for english
uses them ;-)

I should add that I can enter all text with accent or other special keys via
the Send text menu function but this is nothing for real work and renders the
app useless.
