Well, I experience similar issue, when lock the screen with ctrl + alt + l. Black screen. I only can get it back with ctrl + alt + return(restart the X). I also have debian testing, with kernel 4.19. Is there any fix to this problem? If not, I'll keep xscreensaver as my locking program, until the developers can provide a solution.

I have a similar, maybe related issue. When light-locker activates, I usually go to a black screen that doesn't go away despite keyboard and mouse input. Typing my password blindly will unlock it, or switching away to a different virtual console and back to the light-locker one (ctrl-alt F7, ctrl-alt F8) will then show me the lightdm prompt normally.

edit: i think my issue is the same as #114
