dome.

You can see a fuzzy picture of a woman on the videophone. Maybe you should turn
the knob.

Ah, that's better! You recognize the woman as Commander Bly, who's in charge of
the Undersea Research Station of Inventions Unlimited, called the Aquadome, just
off the Atlantic coast. "Torbjorn! Torbjorn!" she's saying. "This is the
Aquadome calling the Andersson Research Lab! We have an urgent problem!"

This is because the videophone at the lab and the videophone at the Aquadome are actually the same VIDEOPHONE object. If you turn on the videophone in the lab before you leave, but don't adjust the picture, the videophone at the Aquadome will still show the fuzzy image, and you can adjust it to speak to Bly.
I guess one way to deal with it would be to reset all the videophone-related variables at some point before getting to the Aquadome, but after you can no longer return to the lab.
