Strange message when shooting the alien hunters #67

You have disturbed the hunters, who are annoyed, and the unicorns, who are now
more wary. The hunt is spoiled.

Many aliens are disintegrated, in the best tradition of the 1930s pulps. The
remainder of the tribe attacks you, seeking revenge. You fire the ray gun at
them. It fires twice. Each time many aliens are dispatched, but more appear.
Ultimately, you are overwhelmed.

   ****  You have died  ****

You hear, if that is the right word, an expressionless voice. It seems to be
inside your head. "This is not promising. The candidate does not deserve another
chance, but the instructions are explicit. There are not even any more docking
ports. They would be disappointed if they knew." You wake to a brief glimpse of
a pallet (on which you are lying) surrounded by metallic threads. The whole
apparatus begins to vibrate and you feel very dizzy. As you lose consciousness,
you realize that you can't see the rest of your body. There is a feeling of
dislocation, and then...
The hunting party scatters.

This happens if I'm in GRASSLAND-2. How do I know the hunting party scattered?

If I'm in GRASSLAND, it's still weird. The aliens still kill me, but it doesn't spoil the hunt:

There is activity above, across the cylinder: Weasels are stalking the unicorn
herd.

Why did I still see the aliens hunting?

In the first case, ALIENS-FCN prints the message. In the second... It looks like JIGS-UP only moves the player (without using GOTO), so maybe HERE isn't updated properly at once?
