Referring to the tools in the workshop could be handled better #31

This room is a well-equipped workshop. Besides the usual sort of tools, the
place is full of mechanical and electrical parts and supplies: switches, relays,
spools of colored wire, and so on. One wall holds the main electric board and a
home-made junction box with more wires going in and out than you can shake a
stick at. The only door is the one you came in.

(You can't see any stuff on the table here!)

It seems I can only refer to the individual tools, which aren't even listed, namely the saw, the hammer, the rope, the spade, the hoe, the rake, and the hose.

I'm not sure what the correct way to handle this is. At the very least, the tools should probably have "TOOL" as one of their synonyms, but how to handle "TOOLS"...?
