I don't think you're supposed to be able to get the potion out of the vial, since some messages in POTION-F refers to the vial.

Ways I've found so far to get the potion out of the vial:

You can put the potion in another container, e.g. the chest.
You can throw the potion at something. That causes it to be dropped.
