It has become unmaintained with GStreamer 1.0 (https://mail.xfce.org/pipermail/xfce-announce/2015-February/000389.html) and needs to be replaced with something else.

cough we stopped using xfce4-mixer in 6b5a5239e4a792954f8c849669f142e922ea8ce3 cough I should probably look through commit logs before reporting these issues...
