While script strings are being handled in #23, .desktop files do not have translated strings. Syntax is described at freedesktop.org, a quick example follows (do not take these translation literally!):

All translations should be in l10n, so perhaps symlinks of all desktop files to that location is an option? Perhaps a separate directory would keep it tidy
