Just navigated to https://www.caniusevia.com/docs/download_firmware only to see that, yes, you do in fact use the github repo to host binary blobs instead of your website, essentially as a bandwidth saver or whatever. Files are pulled from https://raw.githubusercontent.com/the-via/firmware/master/
, so to say DO NOT DOWNLOAD FIRMWARE FROM HERE..... GO TO
is really strange. The website url isn't any more easily navigated than the repo, still requiring users to Ctrl+F
find their firmware either, so the claim Firmware is more easily downloaded from here:
is extremely baseless. Nothing is categorized.
However I can only assume this answers the question of why you do not use subfolders in the repo: You are abusing Github as a host rather than a source code repository. :-1:
Closing as "wontfix". There's no point in wasting energy in this software when I can just report GPL violations.
Far be it from me to understand the creative decision of using a git repository for binary blobs that both requests that you do not download files from it or send pull requests to it, however the ability to see that information lies below a 1000 line file list:
Does this actually make sense to have all firmware (not to be downloaded) in the root directory of the repository and not a subdirectory where users can easily see that they shouldn't be using this firmware?
Somewhat related, the wording of the about box:
DO NOT DOWNLOAD FIRMWARE FROM HERE..... GO TO
conflicts with the README.md:Firmware is more easily downloaded from here:
, both linking to the same place. So which is it? Should the firmware not be downloaded from this repository, or is this firmware identical too and more easily downloaded from the provided link?
