country rating system default context audit plan

At some point we need to do an audit to make sure that the default context assigned to each country is correct. I'm not sure how to attack this at the moment. Maybe we could look at the grades being submitted on a per country basis.

The current country settings are (note that most are set to US, if I did not know):

Is it worth a separate context called unknown or default rather than just assuming US?

In south europe the most countries use french grades: Italy FR / UIAA for alps Slovenia FR Croatia FR Monaco FR? Andorra FR? and so on.

I'm sure these countries don't have US grades: Reunion FR? Slovakia Sweden Turkey

The Saxon rating system is not used in any entire country. Therefore there is no country where the default grading context should by Saxon. It is only used in the southeast of Germany and the northwest of Czech

That doesn't matter so much as multiple grading systems can be assigned to a context as long as they aren't ambiguous, and saxon only seems to clash with polish. We're trying to figure out whether we should tweak the grade context mapping for germany (and czech), or whether we should allow a context to be set at a region level as well as the country level.

Besides Saxon, what other systems does Czech mostly use? French? UIAA? There is only 120 routes in the db so I don't really trust that data much

Yes in Czech mostly is used Saxon French and UIAA.

It is sad that theCrag is some how underdeveloped in Czech there are thousand of routes. Might be due to the very established local climbing page: http://www.czechclimbing.com/ with routes, tickes, topos ....

While UIAA is mostly written as 9-, 9 & 9+ for example, it is sometimes written as IX-, IX & IX+

Also while Saxon is mostly written as IXa, IXb, IXc it is sometimes written as IX-, IX & IX+.

This means there is a conflict on the edge cases.

Brendan, I am comfortable that if we implement the API grade selection then this will not be too much of a problem. At the moment this is the only situation that I can think of where we need to move default context from country to crag.
