Top rope inconsistencies in Sport and Trad CPR timeline. #4248

Hey, I have noticed that there is an inconsistency about how top rope climbs are shown on the Sport CPR timeline and the Trad CPR timeline.

I can see that there are also other posts that raise problems with top rope ticks but I think they may be related to this issue, e.g.: https://github.com/theCrag/website/issues/4158)

In this example I’m using the ascends of the following profile: https://www.thecrag.com/climber/macela00

—— The CPR timelines of the profile looks like this: 8EAF56D5-BDF8-48F7-BD5D-31938C0EB4F2

This is consistent with the result obtained using the router filter to build the sport CPR timeline: E9CD1BEF-8E24-467E-82AF-A94C0DE323AF

5CD50488-4EF9-480E-8D86-B8A90B2D7834

However, when you filter out the different tick types, it becomes apparent that top rope ticks are not shown consistently:

Here are some photos to document it: Onsight and flash top rope filter CPR timeline: A6F17590-5699-43EC-825E-81C1B38193D7 0CC0CD36-E8DD-4E05-974D-95F55195481E

Here’s an example of how the routes are logged: DC8600E7-D716-4686-A6E0-0B66DD65A370

Clean top rope filter CPR timeline: B714575A-464A-4E5A-BAD6-B6D8F77171E2 53307A85-D34A-425D-8539-65F94F9F9770

Similarly, top rope ascends show up in your trad timeline as failed climbs. Here are the ascends included in the profile’s Trad CPR timeline: 684C9155-0EC5-4D8D-A624-4C9B73EFFAC5

Here’s an example of how the routes are logged: EEEE7124-FE5B-4F93-9543-836026FC21F8

To me it looks like that the CPR timelines are based on the route gear style and not the climbed gear style. This may not be a bug, but it has the effect that some top rope climbs will become part of your trad timeline, which I would say is not representative, since it would be more similar to sport climbing. No matter what, I assume that a more detailed filter is needed when creating the timelines?

The routes might also have been logged wrong which is what creates the problem. In that case it is not super clear how to log routes in a manner that creates a consistent CPR timeline.

Lastly, I want to mention that the ascend pyramid for sport does not include top rope ascends at all: 3483CF44-0547-4AB4-8DC1-7936951AB0D6

This means there is an inconsistency between the Sport CPR timeline and the ascend pyramid. This may be by design, but it seems a bit confusing. I suspect the ascend pyramid is made using climbed gear style and not route gear style, which is what creates the inconsistency?

I hope this helps shed some light on the Top rope CPR timeline issues that has been raised.
