I understand that, because I didn’t have the full (paid-up) copy of Epubor, I only got 20% of the text in the extracted text file (before converting to PDF). Right now I have, as you will know, the downloaded file (209 pages) in Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) (so we can do it again, properly). But to send it to David, it must first be extracted from ADE using the official ($20) Epubor, or we use something else.

Unless you have a better suggestion, my next step is to pay for the full copy of Epubor, and repeat the extraction.

I have just downloaded the zip file from

To quote their readme file

*** With Adobe Digital Editions 3.0 and later, Adobe have introduced a new, optional, DRM scheme. To avoid this new scheme, you should use Adobe Digital Editions 2.0.1. Some books are required to use the new DRM scheme and so will not download with ADE 2.0.1. If you still want such a book, you will need to use ADE 3.0 or later to download it, but you should remember that no tools to remove Adobe's new DRM scheme exist as of June 2017.

I tried downloading the whole book on a computer without ADE. It stated that ADE "is required to download books”. I ignored that and clicked continue. It downloaded a 2k file called 5611542.acsm I then started again, and downloaded chapter 3 as PDF. To my amazement, I was also able to download chapters 4, 6 and 8. When I tried 5 or 7, I was rudely told “exceeds your page allowance”. I will upload them now.

Fine. Include 5611542.acsm with others.

David, can you check if that file enables you to do anything with ADE and find some software that does work either using that file or some other method using what Peter has in his ADE?

My quick google confirmed your indication that old methods no longer fix ADE DRM but since epubor does I am pretty sure there are others that do including free. There should be a good current how to doc somewhere.

I won't be able to do anything until next week and am worried that the 7 day limit may make things more difficult once Peter's copy expires. Also worried about absence of images from epubor sample. Please call to discuss.

BTW those chapters should be more helpful as background than the actual proposed standard you got.

Key point is that we just write short topics in github markdown perhaps with some feaatures of MDITA markdown that won't actually be displayed properly on Github. Then enhance them slightly with extended MDITA that can include some features specified only for HDITA as listed in appendix A of the proposed standard.

Eventually link them together with maps using XML editor and produce good output with DITA-OT.

Meanwhile manually combine with added JATS features and use pandoc to submit working papers to journals.
