Abstract
There are classes of applications that require, or can benefit from persistent storage. SQL and NOSQL databases are an example. Until recently, deploying these applications under Mesos management required use of storage directly attached to agent cluster nodes. This presents problems if the application is migrated to a different cluster node. It can also limit scale. In October of 2015, an external storage plugin isolator module was released. Now internal direct attached storage, and managed external storage are both options for frameworks and applications. This session will explain and demonstrate the techniques available for using managed external storage volumes with Docker and non-Docker containerized applications.
Benefits to the Ecosystem
Former limitations have limited the types of applications that get hosted on Mesos. By educating the community on this new feature, the Mesos community can broaden its reach, adding new applications at existing user sites, as well as attracting completely new user organizations, particularly in the legacy enterprise space.
