As another map issue, Jon at the TGN was kind enough to add some numbers for us regarding the different regions in Anatolia, including
Central Anatolia (8698304) Black Sea Region/Northern Anatolia (7018454) Eastern Anatolia (7018455) Aegean Region (8698308) Marmara (7018450) Mediterranean Region (7018452) Southeastern Anatolia (8698310) Southern Anatolia (8698306) Western Anatolia (8698307)
In our text, however, we have "South Anatolia" and "North Anatolia." Jon changed these to Southern and Northern Anatolia when he added the regions, asking the following question:
I did not find much if any sources that referred to the region as “North Anatolia” unless you have one handy? I am happy to add that as a variant term, but as far as I can tell, even “Northern Anatolia” is not preferable to “Black Sea Region” when dividing the nation geographically. Same goes with “South Anatolia” – preferred appears to be “Southern Anatolia.” Let me know if you specifically need those in there, and if you have a source for those terms.
Could we please check with the authors to see if they have a specific reason for using "South" and "North" instead of "Southern" and "Northern"? Jon said he is happy to add them as a variant if they do.
@ngeller I merged in your location ID update, so let me know whenever these are resolved and I can update things again. Thanks!
Mostly clear now. A few queries left for the editor, but closing the issue.
Below are some issues with map names for linking purposes. Most of these involve selecting between two variants that appear either within the catalogue or between the name as it appears in the catalogue entries and name that will appear on the map (i.e., the "custom name"). However, the first one ("Sidi Krebish") is more an issue of whether the PID is correct or not and may need the input of someone familiar with ancient maps.
