fix or replace Makefile #26

Although the Makefile still works for building the extension code, it fails
in its second purpose - making the backup/release package - as the files
need to be listed manually at several places.

I will try to fix this (short term), but in a longer term we could look
elsewhere (scons?)

Scons sucks too. Let's stick to makefiles if we can.
