Approach RoyMech for exchange link #795

Open grumpyinca opened 1 year ago

This is a "tickler" / reminder to request an exchange link from RoyMech.

Publishing release 4.4 should have put the link: RoyMech - Helical Spring Design into references.md.

The request to RoyMech can point out that our part of the exchange is already in place.

An email message requesting the exchange link was sent to RoyMech June 5, 2023.

The June 6 session of Google Analytics Client Id 15782145.1686037216 reveals that the message was received.

June 6 reply:

Mike,

Looked at where you put roymech link, the page has a page authority of 2 and no organic searches. It will appear spammy on Google and will not help roymech presence on the internet.

Sorry not interested.

The roymech team.

Question from Mike:

Can you say if there is a difference in page "authority" between: https://odop.herokuapp.com/docs/Help/SpringDesign/references.html and https://odop.springdesignsoftware.org/docs/Help/SpringDesign/references.html ?

Answer from Pat:

As far as authority goes, there are two general metrics (domain authority, for the entire site) and page authority (for the specific page), and each SEO software has a different algorithm / score and slightly different names for them to try and replicate what Google might use (which is private). Google is in fact much more sophisticated, which is why focusing just on these metrics alone is short-sighted.

For the software that I use, SEMrush, neither URL registers for page authority ("N/A"), and the domain authority for https://odop.herokuapp.com/docs/Help/SpringDesign/references.html is 2 out of 100, while https://odop.springdesignsoftware.org/docs/Help/SpringDesign/references.html scores an 8 out of 100.

So, yes, SEMrush considers the link at odop.springdesignsoftware.org more authoritative, though the scores themselves for each are rather low (This is not usual for a new website). It may be best to focus on your traffic / search presence and the topical relevance of your site, but it is not factually incorrect to say that the second link is more authoritative. Roymech may be using a different SEO software to get their metrics, though the "2" for domain authority in SEMrush is matching what they claim is page authority.
