Motivation and Purpose

For now, IIIF says the Motivation of these Annotations should be tagging. Most of us disagree and believe geo-whatever should be the motivation. Can we find a way to please everyone with both Motivation and Purpose?

With this IIIF annotation spec, it should be possible to:

• georeference/warp a map
• geotag a photo, or maybe even more complicated 3D geotagging like Smapshot is doing
• linking a word on a page in a book to a geographic location

Is there a motivation that makes clear that our spec can be used for all these use cases?

We may want to have a good encompassing motivation "like geotagging" and more granular motivations through purpose. Below are some ideas.

georeferencing A value for purpose available for the Annotation. This lets clients know that this Annotation will contain the data required to georeference the targeted resource into WGS84 space.

Need A Word! Someone wants to add on Point to a photo. "This complete image has one location"

Need a Word! Someone sees three points of interest in the photo. "This complete image has three points of interest"

Need a Word! Geographic terms on the written or typed page. They box the resource fragment and prove 1 : n geographic assertions.
