If you're just looking to play local files, VLC works well for this on Android Auto for audio. Videos, idk if there's a different workaround.
I already have VLC to play local music files us AA, but with Plex, I have seen where to play the video files that are on the device, it uses data on your phone, since it has you run your server and goes through the network to play it through.
You can sideload Plex server for Android and that should avoid data usage for streaming local files.

Is there anyway to play local files without the use of Plex through CarStream? Because it seems as though you are using data to play the local videos off SD Card by accessing the webserver of Plex. Would be more beneficial to use it without having to use data
