Remove keys #52

Updating the remove_keys branch with changes and fixes from master.

@mambo4 made some fixes to the examples as well, did yours touch the same stuff @bob-white ?

I used his version when putting them together, so they should merge cleanly now. His changes were actually why I wanted to wait for this to be merged first. Otherwise the potential for merge conflicts was going to be higher.
