The Freecode (former freshmeat.net) service has been defunct for quite some time now. freecode.com now redirects to sourceforge.net, as those services are owned by the same company.
Freshcode tries to fill that gap. But I sense that lots of the spirit from those days has been lost and people are using GitHub, GitLab, Codeberg, Gitea and related sites as a somewhat (fragmented) replacement, in combination with social medias where the project's main user group target is active.
