Multiple sub-modes in markdown with mmm-mode #2

The mmm-mode Emacs package does not seem to allow more than one sub-mode at a time in the same buffer, i.e., a markdown-mode buffer with GitHub style fenced code blocks for shell scripts, emacs-lisp, and common lisp---only the shell script code blocks are processed by mmm-mode.

Investigate further to see if this is a limitation of mmm-mode or a configuration issue. Other possible solution: find a better multi-mode package.

Multiple submodes work for me. I'm using mmm-mode version 0.5.4.
