I've been thinking about the decisions I face in my life, and many times the decisions I wrestle with aren't decisions between right and wrong, but between good and good. In the course of thinking about it, I've come to a conclusion that I call "the Rule of Tradeoffs".
The Rule of Tradeoffs is simple, and exactly what it sounds like: every decision is a tradeoff between two things. You cannot make a decision without trading one thing for another.
In moral issues, the rule of tradeoffs is pretty easy - I could steal a car, which I would trade long term guilt and possible imprisonment for a really sweet ride.
But what if my decision isn't whether I should commit a crime, but between two seemingly equal decisions?
I frequently find myself in this dilemma as I approach dating.
