Usable memory should be determined somehow #17

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Run stressapptest
2. Sometimes crashes or runs very slowly
3. Memory is being swapped to disk, or system has OOMed

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
stressapptest should avoid swapping or OOM somehow, or report an explicit error.
