Tracking inconsistencies

There are inconsistences with the way interactivity pages behave, are tracked and the information that then appears on the results page. For example:

Resetting interactions

• Existing pages use a mixture of reset on return to page, reset with button and no reset possible.
• Reset with button is probably best but should this be allowed when in tracking mode? Inconsistency in whether it is allowed or disabled.
• Gap fill drag and drop (mark at end) doesn't allow you to remove labels you have dropped so you are forced to submit to move labels placed incorrectly.

Completion

• Existing pages use a mixture of never showing as complete, always showing as complete if viewed, and complete if attempted.
• Makes sense for pages with no interaction to complete on view only but shouldn't interactions require at least one attempt to be 'complete'?

Correct answers

• Correct answers are always available on results page but some pages don't allow you to view correct answers on the page after you have made an incorrect attempt.
• Attempts allowed before seeing correct answers is on some pages - should this be added to all interactions?

Scores

• Score in global results is of 1st attempt but details in specific results show most recent attempt - this is confusing as score can appear too high/low
• On pages that allow multiple attempts, the score in global results is often from 1st of these, even if you haven't moved away from page and returned to retry. So you can be told on page, after a couple of attempts, that you have everything right but results page later gives score indicating that you haven't.
• The score is 100% if you only view a non-activity page before viewing results page. The score is 0% if you view, but don't complete, an marked activity before viewing results page. I think in both these cases the score should be 0%.

Submitting answers

• Existing pages use a mixture of submitting answers on button click only and submitting when leaving page, even if button not clicked.

Activities that are not attempted

• When a marked activity (e.g. MCQ) is viewed but not attempted, the results page shows a red cross, blank 'your answer' and shows the correct answer. Would it be better to show dashes instead of the cross and your answer and not show the correct answer until an attempt has been made.

Tracking interactions with no correct answer

• Inconsistency in what info shows on results page for interactions where there is no correct answer (e.g. highlight text, model answer, modify exercise)

No tracking

• Some pages containing interactions aren't tracked - should they be? dialog, crossword etc.

Tracking score weight

• Should all tracked pages have this? Most do but highlight text doesn't

Possible changes to language used for clarity (all done)

• [x] General results -> Results overview
• [x] Interactivity results -> Detailed results
• [x] Global results -> Page overview
• [x] Specific results -> Interactivity results
• [x] Average -> Score

I don't expect all this to be discussed on GitHub but will tag for discussion on April dev day. I'll try to do an audit of how all pages behave before then too.

@ronm123 @torinfo I'd really like to talk about these issues at meeting in at the end of the month. I've added some new functionality to the results page but am reluctant to make many changes to the things listed above without talking to you both.
